Dr Santer
Abstract Background

Dr. Michael A. Santer, Jr., a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, founded Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, Inc., in 1972.

Dr. Santer majored in biology at Wheeling Jesuit College, and he received his doctorate of medicine degree magna cum laude from Georgetown University in 1965. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1970, and he completed his fellowship in cardiology at Georgetown University Hospital in 1972. Dr. Santer is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is the Clinical Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at West Virginia University. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and he is a member of numerous medical organizations.

Dr. Santer's expertise within the field of cardiology includes the non-invasive evaluation of the cardiac patient including bedside physical findings, echocardiography, and nuclear imaging.

Dr. Santer and his wife, Andrea, are the parents of four children; they also have six grandchildren. Dr. Santer retired from Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in June of 2012 after 40 years of practice. He was awarded Emeritus status at Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in August of 2012.

Dr. M. David Avington, a native of Parkersburg, West Virginia, joined PCA in 1973. Dr. Avington majored in biology at Wheeling College, and he received his doctorate of medicine degree from Georgetown University in 1966. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Kentucky in 1973, and he completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Dr. Avington is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the West Virginia Heart Association, and the West Virginia Medical Association.
Dr. Avington's expertise within the field of cardiology includes general cardiology.
Dr. Avington and his wife, Delores, are the parents of Carla and Bethany. Dr. Avington retired from Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in October of 2011 after 38 years of practice. He was awarded Emeritus status at Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in August of 2012.

M. David Avington, M.D.

Dr. Hemant C. Modi, a native of Ahmedabad, India, joined PCA in 1989. Dr. Modi majored in chemistry, biology, and physics at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India, and he received his doctorate of medicine degree from Gujarat University in 1982. He completed his internship at Gujarat University, and he completed his residency at Cabrini Medical Center, New York, in 1987. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn, New York in 1989.

Dr. Modi is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Parkersburg Academy of Medicine, and the West Virginia Medical Association. Dr. Modi's expertise within the field of cardiology includes clinical cardiology, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology, with a special interest in heart failure and valvular heart disease.

Dr. Modi and his wife, Alpa, are the parents of Asim and Sujal.

Dr. David A. Gnegy, a native of Oakland, Maryland, joined PCA in 1995. Dr. Gnegy majored in chemistry at Frostburg State College, and he received his doctorate of medicine degree from the University of Maryland in 1989. He completed his internship and his residency at the University of Maryland in 1992, and he completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Gnegy is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the West Virginia Heart Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the West Virginia Medical Association, and the Parkersburg Academy of Medicine.

Dr. Gnegy's expertise within the field of cardiology includes general adult cardiovascular disease, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, nuclear medicine, pacemakers/AICD implantation, and CHF.
Dr. Gnegy and his wife, Margaret, are the parents of Matthew, Katherine, and Andrew.

Dr. John (Chip) A. Goddard, a native of Bridgeport, West Virginia, joined PCA in 2005. Dr. Goddard majored in pharmacy at West Virginia University, and he received his doctorate of medicine degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his internship and his residency in internal medicine at the West Virginia University Medical Center in 2001. He completed his fellowship in cardiology at the West Virginia University Medical Center.

Dr. Goddard is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the West Virginia Medical Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Goddard's expertise within the field of cardiology includes cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, interventional cardiology, and peripheral cardiovascular intervention.
Dr. Goddard is the father of Zachary, Jacob, and Joshua. Dr. Goddard's outside interests include golf and fishing.

Dr. John E. Mason joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates to practice invasive and general cardiology in 2008.

A native of Williamstown, Dr. Mason completed his medical education at Marshall University in 2002.  He also completed his internal medicine residency and fellowship in cardiology at Marshall in 2008.  He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Mason is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.  He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  His practice focusus on general adult cardiovascular care, diagnostic catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, tilt table examinations and nuclear medicine.

Dr. Christopher T. Miller is a native of West Virginia.  After practicing Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in Parkersburg from 1997 until 2007 he decided to pursue the specialty of cardiology.  

Dr. Miller completed his general cardiology fellowship from West Virginia University Hospital in 2010 and his interventional cardiology fellowship from West Virginia University Hospital in 2011.  He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.  He returned to the Parkersburg area in July of 2011 and joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, Inc. at that time.

Christopher T. Miller, M.D.,

Dr. Showri M. Karnam is a native of Katrapadu, India.  He joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, Inc. in August of 2015.

He completed his medical degree from St. John's Medical College in Bangalore, India.  Dr. Karnam completed his residency in Internal Medicine, fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dr. Karnam is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.  He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. 

His expertise is in the field of general cardiology, peripheral vascular disease and limb salvage, cardiac and peripheral catheterization, cardiac and peripheral interventions, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and nuclear medicine.

His interests include travelling and playing basketball.

Dr. Karnam and his wife Laura are the parents of Manohar, Rohan, Nikhil and Vihaan.

Dr. Tasleem S. Katchi was born and raised in Mumbai, India.  She joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, Inc. in December of 2022.  She obtained her medical degree from Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital in Mumbai.  She completed her residency in Internal Medicine from Westchester Medical Center in New York.  She completed her fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease from Tulane School of Medicine and Aventura Hospital & Medical Center.  She then went on to complete a fellowship in Interventional Cardiology from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dr. Katchi is board certified in Internal Medicine and Echocardiography.  She is board eligible in Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Medicine.

Her scope of practice includes adult cardiovascular disease, diagnosis and management of acute coronary syndromes, congestive heart failure and valvular disease.  Her expertise lies in coronary and endovascular interventions, coronary physiology, intravascular ultrasound and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.  Dr. Katchi has a special interest in preventative cardiology and Women's Health.

In her free time, Dr. Katchi enjoys hiking with her husband and dog.

Tasleem S. Katchi, M.D.

Board certified nurse practitioner Melanie D. Matheny joined PCA in 2016.  She received her associate's degree of nursing in 1983 and her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Salem College in 1989.  She received a Master's of Science in nursing from West Virginia University in 1995.  She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner.

Prior to employment at PCA, Melanie had 3 years of experience working in diabetes and endocrinology and has a certificate in advanced diabetes management.  As a nurse practitioner she has also worked in family practice for 8 years and internal medicine for 10 years.  Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner she had 10 years of experience as a critical care nurse.

Melanie and her husband, Jeff, reside in Mineral Wells and are the parents of Alicia, Robert and Madison.

Board certified nurse practitioner Tammy S. Burton joined PCA in January of 2018. She received her associate's degree of nursing in 1990 from the University of Charleston, her Bachelor of Science in nursing from West Virginia University in 2010 and her Master's of Science in nursing with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Marshall University in 2013. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner.

Prior to employment at PCA, Tammy had 15 years of experience working in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, 2 years of experience in infectious disease medicine and 11 years of experience in general and interventional cardiology.

Tammy and her husband, Jeff, reside in Marietta, Ohio.​

Board certified nurse practitioner Sarah M. Hendrix joined PCA in 2019. Sarah received her Associate of Nursing from West Virginia University at Parkersburg in 2008, Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Ohio University in 2012 and Master of Science with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Ohio University in 2018. Sarah is board certified from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is an affiliate member of the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Prior to employment at PCA, Sarah had 10 years of experience in emergency nursing.

Sarah, her husband and two children reside in Vienna, WV.

Board certified nurse practitioner, Emily D. Howell joined PCA in October of 2020. Emily received an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from Hocking College in 2012 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ohio University in 2014. She received a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Walden University in 2020. Emily is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Prior to employment at PCA, Emily had 6 years of experience in critical care nursing and 2 years of experience working in emergency medicine.

Emily resides in Coolville, Ohio with her husband and two daughters.

Board certified nurse practitioner, Brittany J. Cox joined PCA in April of 2022. Brittany received an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing from West Virginia University at Parkersburg in 2011 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 2012.  She received a Master’s of Science in Nursing with a focus on Family Nurse Practitioner from Walden University in 2017.  Brittany is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

 Prior to employment at PCA, Brittany has over 6 years of experience in cardiac nursing, over 1 year experience in nursing education and most recently more than 3 years of experience as a nurse practitioner, specializing in Geriatrics. 

 Brittany and her husband, Chris, reside in Coolville, Ohio and are the parents of Cameron and Aubrey.

Board Certified Physician Assistant, Hannah A. Cothern joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in January of 2023.  Hannah received her Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Marietta College in 2020 and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Marietta College in 2022.  She is board certified through the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.

Hannah enjoys reading and traveling in her free time.  She resides in Washington, WV.

Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, Kayla R. Adams joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in July of 2023. Kayla received her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing in August of 2014 and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in August of 2018 from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Kayla graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio in December of 2020 with her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner. Kayla is a board-certified nurse practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Prior to employment with PCA, Kayla spent eight years working in emergency nursing. In her free time she enjoys attending her children's extracurricular events and reading.
Kayla resides in Davisville, WV.

Board Certified Nurse Practitioner, Shannon Ullman joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in August 2023. Shannon received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing, with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner, from West Virginia University. Shannon is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Prior to her career with PCA, Shannon spent four years as a Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit at Ruby Memorial Hospital and then practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner for three years at Health Access Inc. in Clarksburg, WV. Shannon resides in Washington, WV with her husband, son and two golden retrievers.

Board Certified Physician Assistant, Danielle D. Reed joined Parkersburg Cardiology Associates in October of 2023. Danielle received her Bachelor of Science in May of 2021 from Marietta College in Marietta, OH. She furthered her career after acceptance into Marietta College’s PA Program where she graduated in July of 2023 receiving her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
Prior to her career with PCA, Danielle enjoyed her work-study position with Marietta College’s Health and Wellness Center while she worked on obtaining her bachelor’s degree and applying to PA school. Danielle resides in Reno, OH with her family.
